Studies show that reducing the toxic burden on our bodies can improve digestion, increase energy, lessen allergy symptoms and strengthen immunity to viruses. Pair all that with sharper mental abilities, better sleep quality, and healthier skin, and there’s no reason not to try a gentle physical (and mental) cleanse. Here are 7 healthy habits that help introduce a daily detox and breathe new life into your body!

MONDAY. Toss the trash. Fried foods, sugary and salty foods, and anything that is processed, prepared, or packaged. All of the above tend to be full of trans fats, and additives.

 

TUESDAY. If you can’t read what is in it, don’t eat it. Most of the harmful chemicals you should be avoiding have long and complex names. If you can’t read the words on the list of ingredients, don’t buy it and opt for fresh foods that come in Mother Nature’s packaging.

 

WEDNESDAY. Drink at least 8 to 10 cups of pure water daily. At the very least, add the fresh juice of one lemon to a large glass of water first thing in the morning. Lemons contain more than 20 anti-cancer compounds, and help flush out toxins from the liver, kidneys, and colon.

 


THURSDAY. Eat lots of vegetables.
Make vegetables at least 70 per cent of every meal. Easy options include a fresh vegetable juice, a large green salad, or a plate of steamed, roasted, or stir-fried veggies.

 

 

FRIDAY. Choose healthy snacks throughout the day. Pre-pack a handful of raw, unsalted almonds or raw carrots with hummos. You can hit the food court at EMTC for vegetarian sushi or a wrap, and a berry smoothie with soymilk always makes a smart snack.

 

SATURDAY. Go for a brisk walk outside. Exercise improves circulation, which revitalizes organs and tissues with fresh, oxygenated blood.

 

SUNDAY. Disconnect.
At least one day of the week should be reserved for unplugging the Smartphone and connecting with friends and family. Whether it’s taking the time to go on a long bike ride with the kids, or perhaps a yoga class then brunch with a few girlfriends, allowing yourself some downtime will do wonders for your well-being.
